June 30 – Trying to Understand and Obey God’s Directives

June 23rd, 2013 by admin

Join us for Morning Worship and a message from Rev. Roy Luckenbill, Pastor Emeritus. Pastor Roy’s message is titled “Trying to Understand and Obey God’s Directives” and is based on Matthew 7:1-12. The message follows this outline:

7:1-2 — What does He mean when He says: “Judge not…”?
— “To Judge” has been interpreted to mean: “to form an authoritative position.”
— Before criticizing others be certain you have examined yourself.

7:3-5 — Look closely in the mirror before looking out the window.

7:6 — Let’s admit it is difficult to comprehend.
— “Don’t give holy things to depraved men.”
— Proverbs 9:8: “Reprove not a scorner lest he hate you; Revoke a wise man and he will love you.”

7:7-12 — Request… Receive… Relate and apply.
— The “Golden Rule” (vs. 12).
— Is this how we relate to others?

Summary:
1. Be sympathetic in your evaluation of others
2. Look at yourself in the mirror before looking out the window.
3. Ask the Holy Spirit to be your teacher and guide.
4. Do unto others as you would have others do to you.
