Weekly Devotional: On Staying the Course

Stay the Course, Even When It’s Not Popular

In Mark 1:37, the disciples say to Jesus, “Everyone is looking for you!”

Just imagine going viral on TikTok. Suddenly, you have a million followers and over a million views on everything you post, but then you go silent. Those following you will want to know where you are and when you will return to being on their timelines.

Can you imagine that? Jesus actually went viral before social media even existed. The crowds loved Jesus and couldn’t get enough of Him. But instead of staying where the attention was, He said it was time to move on to another town to keep preaching elsewhere, because that was His mission.

That’s hard to do. Especially when you’ve built something that’s working. But Jesus wasn’t after popularity; He was after purpose.

We often stay longer in places that God only intended to be temporary because we don’t want to disappoint the people who rely on us. But doing what “works” is not the same as doing what’s right.

Don’t let applause or the audience pull you off course. You were never meant to stay in Capernaum if Galilee is calling.

Journal Prompt:
Ask yourself: Where might I be clinging to success, attention, or comfort, instead of trusting where God is leading me next?

Prayer:
Father, give me the strength to move forward even when it’s difficult. Help me to honor You over people, and purpose over popularity. In Christ’s name, Amen.
