About

Christ EC Church

Our Purpose is to provide opportunities for public worship of God, evangelism, Christian education, and fellowship.

Our Mission is to uphold a biblically-based ministry that promotes worship, fellowship, Christ-like character development, and teaching and evangelism opportunities so we may know Him and make Him known throughout our community and the world.

Christ Church of Allentown was born in 2007 by the merger of Grace Worship Center of  Whitehall and Boulevard Evangelical Congregational Church of Allentown. Utilizing the facilities of the former Boulevard Church, Christ Church endeavors to “know Christ and make Him known.”

Our Pastor, Rev. Thad Hughes was born in Philadelphia, but grew up in the Boyertown area.  After graduating from Salem Christian High School, he obtained an undergraduate degree in criminal justice from Albright College.   He then graduated from Evangelical Theological Seminary in 2009 — deciding upon the ministry as a vocation.  It is at that time he met his future wife, Jill.

He then worked as both an administrator and a chaplain of a personal care home.  Feeling the need to do more ministry, Thad moved on to work as a hospice chaplain in several several counties.  During COVID lockdown, the Hughes joined a zoom bible study group for prayer, study, and connection.  This bible study group eventually drew them to the St. John’s E.C. Church in East Allentown, where Thad became its pastor.

And only a few months following, he was also asked to become the pastor of our Christ E.C. Church in West Allentown.  After a lot of praying, the Hughes family followed God’s calling to serve both churches; and Pastor Thad arrived at Christ E.C. in July 2023.

Pastor Thad, Jill and their son, Nathaniel, are excited to get to know you, and to pray and support you in living a truly Christian life.  Thank you for allowing them to be part of your life’s journey.
